A Christmas Carol
For BBC Four’s The Read, Anne-Marie Duff gives a spirited reading of Charles Dickens’ seasonal classic.
Client: Rural Studios / BBC Arts
Sector: Narrative (73 Mins)
Services: Sound Design & Mix
SYNOPSIS
Charles Dickens’ much-loved fable needs little introduction, being one of the adapted seasonal stories for screen. Anne-Marie Duff takes us through Ebeneezer Scrooge’s encounters with the three ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. Will they intervene in time to save his soul?
SOUND DESIGN
As the story mixes the ghostly with the festive, it presented a wonderful opportunity for rich and varied sound design. We hear Victorian streets bustling with merchants and horses, Christmas party scenes and shady back alleys alongside eerie voice effects, creepy clanking chains and unsettling ambiences. The ghost’s journeys with Scrooge are brought to life with creative transitions and fantastical sound effects.
