Gatman
A one-man comedy show about alcoholism and recovery, with a superhero twist.
Client: Cork Everyman
Sector: Theatre (80 Mins)
Services: Composer & Sound Designer
SYNOPSIS
The play is split into two distinct worlds: Murph is an alcoholic attempting to kick the habit, while Gatman is his permanently drunk alter ego.
In the mundane world we follow Murph’s struggles with alcohol, parenting and family life. Meanwhile, Gatman gets into ever more madcap situations while attempting to foil Father Mathew, his nemesis who wants to turn Cork city sober.
As we progress, the two worlds collide and influence each other in exciting and unpredictable ways.
SOUND DESIGN & SCORE
Murph’s world is rooted in the outdoor noises of Cork city: traffic, alleys, dogs barking, pedestrians, cathedral bells. Gatworld springs to life with animations which we supported with whooshes, impacts, risers and over-the-top fight sounds.
The Murph scenes feature some subtle underscore, but the primary function of the score is to drive the Gatman scenes forward. For this we used an orchestral palette including big crescendos, staccato string stabs and punchy percussion.
