Free Sounds From Sonniss

City alley

You’re editing your film and the lead character is moving through an urban landscape.

The scene was filmed quickly and the recorded sound isn’t suitable. It’s missing the familiar cues you might expect - rumbling traffic, wailing sirens, barking dogs - and it all feels a bit flat.

You'd love to hear what a gritty urban atmosphere sound would bring to the scene.

Fortunately, there are loads of free resources out there to help.

One of the best comes courtesy of Sonniss. Every year they do a massive drop of free, professional grade sounds ready to be used in your project.

Last year’s is over 50GB, which should be about enough to get you started!

And there are some urban sounds in there too.

Adding simple sound effects during the editing stage can invigorate your film, and give a sense of how it will translate to the audience before you have sent it to be professionally sound designed and mixed.
